Healthy Smiles: Oral Health Webinar for Spanish Speaking Parents

Join the Head Start National Center on Health (NCH) for a webinar promoting healthy smiles for Hispanic pregnant women and children enrolled in Head Start and their families. The webinar will broadcast in Spanish. It will promote key messages to improve participants awareness and knowledge of evidence-based oral health practices.

Dr. Francisco Ramos-Gomez will present. Dr. Ramos-Gomez is a professor of pediatric dentistry at the University of California, Los Angeles UCLA School of Dentistry.

Topics for the webinar include:

  • Importance of oral health
  • Impact on childrens school readiness and overall health and well-being
  • Preventing oral disease
  • Practicing good oral health habits
  • Understanding that dental visits are safe during pregnancy
  • Making sure children have their first dental visit by age 1

Who Should Participate?

This webinar was designed for Spanish-speaking families and Head Start staff and oral health professionals who work with them.Programs are encouraged to host viewing parties on the day of the event. NCH will share materials and activities, including parent handouts, pre- and post-webinar tests, games, and songs. They also will offer snack ideas to reinforce the key oral health messages.Invite your NCH dental hygienist liaison and local dentists and dental hygienists to attend the viewing party to serve as local oral health experts.
